Our Founders
Women in Philanthropy of Sarasota began with a simple yet powerful belief shared by two women, Margaret and Katherine, that when women give from the heart, they make the world around them better for everyone.
For Margaret, the spark was a wish to honor the remarkable women who quietly built Sarasota, those whose humility, compassion, kindness, and integrity became the foundation of this community. "We are about heart," she said. "Community grows from women who care, and in Sarasota, those women have been the heartbeat of the city we love and the future we're building together."
When Margaret invited Katherine to share her vision, Katherine reflected on the mentorship that had guided her upon arriving in Sarasota and spoke with conviction about sustaining a legacy of generational connection. Her aspiration was to create an organization to inspire and equip a new generation of compassionate leaders, transforming their time, talents, and treasures into meaningful impact. "When women lift one another, generations rise," Katherine affirmed. "In my experience, mentorship was not merely guidance, it was the quiet shaping of destiny."
Founded in 2024, Women in Philanthropy of Sarasota has quickly become one of the region's most warmly received and fast-growing organizations, uniting women of every generation around the enduring truth that when women lead with heart, communities shine in meaningful ways that last for years to come.
